MINIATURE INUKSHUK IVORY STUDS

Almost microscopic inukshuk studs, this artwork reflects the fine carving of ivory by a remarquable Inuk artist from Pangnirtung,Nunavut,Sandy Maniapik. The studs are fixed to the ears with sterling silver stem.

The inukshuk is the best example of Inuit ingeniosity for their survival. In Inuktitut,Inuk means man and inukshuk means looks like a man. Those statues erected everywhere in the Arctic tundra mean a lot for the Inuit who use them as GPS for their orientation and survival in this remote  part of the North...The Inuit will read the inukshuit just like   we  read the road maps....For finding a trail to travel from a village to another,to see a shallow part of a river that you can easily cross,to frighten caribous and trap them in a valley ,to find a spawning ground to get your fish,to find a survival kit with dry food,rope,gas,etc... to be secure while waiting for the stop of a sudden fog or blizzard ,the Inukshuk is a guardian and a protector for the People of the North for a long time.
