GOOSE IN FLIGHT TAMARACK DECOY
In the Cree communities of James Bay ,Canada Goose has always been the one and only source of reliable food supply, twice a year, during spring and fall migrations.That's why this bird is sacred and the traditional way of life was based on the geese migration to dictate the nomadic lifestyle of this First Nation..The Crees used to make their decoys out of driftwood or tamarack branches.In the community of Waskaganish, the Blackned family is perpetuating the tradition of tamarack decoys but added fancier styles such as this flying model for your decoration. It will always be a reminder of your journey to James Bay Eeyou-Istchee area.
When the tamarack decoys are freshly crafted, the branches are still wet (to be folded without breaking) and the bird smells so good! You can always regenerate this nice scent by storing your decoy in a freezer for a few hours.It will give back your bird some humidity and freshness.
Every time your bird looses it's scent beacause it dries , refresh it by doing this little operation . And if ever you want to see how good tamarack smells when heated, put steam under the belly of your decoy or on the wings, it will smell eucalyptus.The Crees were using it as a decongestant like we use Vicks or similar products to cure sinus congestion.
