DRUM DANCER PUVIRNITUQ
This character is at the center of Inuit celebrations upon departure or arrival of the hunters from a long journey.The drum dancer is there to bring luck,gratefulness,and joy to all the Inuit gathering around him ,especially if hunters are bringing a feast to their peers.The artwork is carved in steatite,a common soapstone found in the area.
This carving is from Joshua Seeg Sivuarapik from Puvirnituq,Hudson Bay,Nunavik.
